Synopsis
On the surface, this is literally a book about barbecue joints and the good
folks who owned them (If you can’t be clever, at least be clear). It is also a
travel book and a cook book.
Dig a little deeper and it is truly an inspirational book. The people and
their places (they are both one and the same) are craftsman, philosophers,
priests and artists for starters. They work very long hours often for short pay.
Many were born into it, most fell into it, a couple even aspired to it, and now
that it is in their blood, they can’t see themselves ever doing anything else.
They give a lot, but the feel that they get so much more back, from their
customer and friends (most of the time they are two of the same) so much so that
it is not uncommon for their respective communities to name a road in their
honor.
Biography
Born in New York. Raised outside of D.C. Fate, college and mild winters
brought David Howard Gelin to Dixie. Along with the aptly named Buddy, an animal
rescue slated for the big dog house in the sky, they are most at home on the
open road. Hope to see you out there.
